The week started off rough. I was in a lot of pain. But as the week went on, things really started to improve in my hip.

Monday

Over the weekend I had been feeling really good and so optimistic about my progress. But as soon as I got up Monday morning, I was in a lot of pain. Thankfully I already had PT scheduled. Because I was so sore, we skipped the exercises and he focused on myofascial release to help with the tight, sore muscles.

I tried to lay low and rest for the rest of the day, but that is not exactly easy when you have four kids to take care of.

Tuesday

If I thought I was sore Monday, Tuesday was even worse. I even had a good cry after I got the kids off to school. It just hurt so bad and I was feeling really discouraged.

The pain lasted most of the day, but it did start to ease up a bit by the evening.

Both days I only took Tylenol and Advil for the pain. Advil seems to help the most, which makes sense since a lot of my pain feels inflammation related.

Wednesday

The soreness improved Wednesday morning, but there was still a lingering ache. I tried to go about my day without overdoing it.

I went to a local BNI meeting that morning and had lunch with my parents in the afternoon. As the day went on, I started feeling much better.

Thursday

I had another mini Emily Day. Last week’s was spontaneous, but this one was planned.

After getting the kids off to school, I had counseling in the morning and then spent the afternoon adventuring around Amish Country. That evening I met up with a couple of other “Boss Mamas,” which is just a small group of women who are all business owners and moms.

Friday

I felt like a new woman by Friday morning, which was good because it was a busy day.

I was able to do my physical therapy exercises at home for the first time in about a week. I kept it light and tried not to overdo it so I would not re-aggravate anything. It felt really good to get on the bike and move again.

In the afternoon I met a friend for coffee, and that evening two of my kids had their school musical, which they were both in. Towards the end of the day I was feeling sore but it was manageable. Nothing Advil couldn’t relieve.

Saturday & Sunday

It was a busy weekend with more musical performances, plus baseball and soccer, but my hip held up pretty well.

My back, on the other hand, was pretty tight, so I did rely on muscle relaxers in the evenings.

So proud of our two older girls and their performances in the school musical!

Wrapping it Up

Recovery feels a little boring right now because it is slow.

I am still using one crutch when I am out of the house, but I am almost completely crutch-free at home. Most days I took two Tylenol and four ibuprofen, but not every day. I am still using muscle relaxers at night here and there, but not often.

Around the house, I am doing more regular tasks like dishes and picking up when I can. My mom is still helping three to four days a week with things like laundry and dusting and vacuuming.

Things are moving in the right direction. They are just moving a little slower this week than I would have hoped.
