Another week down and, thankfully, more progress! Medical equipment is slowly starting to disappear as my strength returns.

Monday

The kids went back to school after spring break, and I even did school drop-off for the first time since before surgery! I also took my daughter to soccer and gave one of the kids a bath before bed.

By the end of the day, I was wiped out. This was the most activity I’ve had in 7 weeks.

We had some beautiful weather last week and I spent as much time on the porch as possible!

Tuesday

My first official day of physical therapy! My PT was happy with my progress and gave me permission to go down to one crutch at home, as tolerated. I’ll still use two when needed and when I’m out and about for now.

I was also given a few new exercises to work on until my next session.

Wednesday

Another day of driving kids to and from activities. Being able to drive again has been wonderful. I’m so happy to be getting back into the swing of things, even if it’s just school drop-offs and pickups.

Thursday

I’ve been seeing a counselor for about six months, and during recovery I’ve been so thankful I could continue via Zoom. But on Thursday, I was able to go in person again!

Afterward, I did one of my favorite things, drive around with a coffee in hand while listening to a podcast. It’s such a simple thing, but it brings me so much joy.

So excited to be down to one crutch as often as possible at home!

Friday

The kids had the day off, and we had a full house of kids over to play. By the end of the week, I started to feel pretty sore on both sides, mostly hamstring irritation and some lower left back pain.

I tried to spend most of the day sitting and relaxing to let things calm down.

Saturday

I had a busy morning on my feet. Between giving my youngest a bath, blow-drying her hair (per her request), prepping vegetables for a family Easter gathering, and standing to do my makeup, I was really sore by the afternoon.

Thankfully, we spent time with my family later, and I was able to sit and be taken care of, which wasn’t so bad.

Sunday

Easter Sunday! My first Sunday back at church in nearly 8 weeks, and what a beautiful weekend to return.

After church, we enjoyed Easter baskets and egg hunts, then spent the evening with my husband’s family. I was still dealing with some soreness, but not as bad as the previous couple of days.

Wrapping it Up

I’m still moving in the right direction, but I’m definitely riding the roller coaster of pain as my body relearns how to walk.

I’m slowly weaning off my medical equipment, i.e. transitioning off crutches, fully done with the walker, and I’m very happy to report that the raised toilet seats are officially gone (and cleaned and put away!). No more awkward bathroom moments for guests.

On that note… digestion still isn’t 100%, but it’s improving. And my sleep has gotten significantly better now that I’m up and moving more.

Things like showering, getting dressed, blow drying my hair, doing my makeup, putting on my socks and shoes, are all totally doable on my own.

I’m still relying heavily on help from my mom for household tasks like laundry and cleaning. Cooking for myself is getting easier, and I’m becoming more independent with getting up and ready each day. Most days this week, I ended the day back on two crutches due to soreness, but I can still see big improvements.
